Diagnosis andTreatment

BHUK offers a ‘OneStop’ clinic for women that have developed symptoms, such as an unexplained lump or breast pain.

A series of tests will be carried out called a triple assessment. This allows for a more detailed diagnosis and ensures that if cancer is detected the most suitable treatment is given. Triple assessment includes:

Clinical breast examination (physical examination)

Breast imaging (mammography, Digital Infrared Breastscan and/or ultrasound)

Fine needle aspiration or needle core biopsy

Each breast cancer diagnosis will be different and patients are individually assessed to receive the best treatment for them. This will normally include a combination of all or some of the following: surgery, radiotherapy, or drug therapy, in any order.
